Age 42, female, white British. Contact was made following a healthy living event at a local primary school.
What did they want help with?
Healthy eating, Weight loss physical activity and improve mental wellbeing.
How did you help this person and what worked well?
Target setting, goal planning, regular completion of food and physical activity sheets. Motivation sheets& referral to other services worked well. liaison with health care assistant at local G.P.
What difficulties did you have and how did you overcome them.
Client had a problem with knee- assisted with referral to Physio. Also worked with exercises to do at home. Referred to slimming world on prescription.
What did this person achieve, including changes to their lifestyle?
Client improved physical activity, working towards NVQ at work. Joined a computer and maths group. Attained woman of the year at slimming world weight loss over 3 stones.
What did you learn from helping this person? What would you do differently next time?
How listening; encouraging and supporting a client helps dramatically with motivation and getting results. I would put more emphasis on length of sessions and attendance.
